Local pregnancy resource centres have been serving pregnant women for over 40 years. They offer a wide variety of services, most of them for free. Here is a basic list of things that you can expect from a resource centre in your area that will help you make an informed decision:

  • 24-hour hotline
  • Confidential, free pregnancy test
  • Peer counseling
  • Pregnancy options information and counseling
  • Maternity and baby clothing/baby furnishings
  • Post-abortion counseling
  • Labour support person
  • Childbirth classes
  • Fetal development information
  • Abortion procedures and risk information
  • Community referrals
  • Ongoing support

By means of referrals, pregnancy resource centres may also be able to refer you to the following services in your area:

  • Medical care
  • Social services
  • Professional counseling
  • Housing
  • Adoption/foster care
  • Legal services
  • Single parent support network
  • Daycare resources for student mothers
