The Signal Hill The Signal Hill

For Teachers

The Signal HillWhat does Signal Hill offer to schools, universities and other institutes of learning? Academic excellence in research and content; our presentations are compelling, intellectually honest and fascinating for the student eager to understand some of life's most difficult issues.

We offer presentations to both the Social Science Departments and to the Health & Career Education Departments. That means that we go into Law, Family Management, Social Justice, Religion, Career & Personal Planning and Civic Studies classes to present a wide array of life issues.

Signal Hill believes that education on these issues is vitally important. We believe that when people are given all of the information on a particular issue of ethical concern that they will rarely make choices in their own lives that will result in harm done individually or to others.

Presentation Topics

Abortion

We present the abortion issue with sensitivity and tact. Students will be exposed to fascinating visuals of life in the womb. The legal situation and the language of "rights" as it pertains to this issue will be discussed. Arguments for and against abortion rights will be given in a manner that is intelligent, compassionate and easy to understand. They will give the student a fair opportunity to understand a particular perspective on a greatly debated issue in our society.

Stem Cell Research

This presentation will examine the human reproductive technologies. These seemingly complex issues are governed by simple, clear principles that students can learn and apply to many other ethical situations. Questions like "what is InVitro Fertilization?", "what is the difference between Embryonic Stem Cell Research and Adult Stem Cell Research?", "can humans be cloned?" will be asked and answered in a way that will lead students through the ins and outs of these composite issues.

Do I Have a "Right to Die"?

Is there a "Right to Die"? What happens to the elderly and disabled when a society allows "mercy killing"? Is taking a patient off a life support system a form of euthanasia? What does the law have to say about this issue and why? These are just a few of the points that will be covered in this talk on a subject that is full of difficult questions about society's response to those who suffer.

Society and Sexuality

This presentation will discuss one of life's most challenging issues, human sexuality. Using only government statistics and peer reviewed studies from reputable medical journals, students will be presented with the facts about sexually transmitted diseases, teen sex and mental health, teen pregnancy and condom use. Abstinence before marriage and fidelity in marriage will be discussed in a way that is non-judgemental, as a perspective that ought to be considered for the student's future life and health.
